The next big Nintendo Switch title hitting shelves this month is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. A re-release of the Wii U title released in 2014. I was really keen to jump in the updated Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I was a big fan of the Wii U version and was looking forward to some fun switch multiplayer action that I could play anywhere.
Being a re-release, Nintendo have tried to make Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as appealing as possible to returning customers. Every single character and track is unlocked right from the start, which includes all DLC characters and maps. We also have the Inkling Kids from Splatoon 2 and a new Splatoon track. But the best new inclusion in Deluxe is the return of Battle Mode!
With 5 different versions and 8 different battle maps, Battle mode is a heap of fun! We have Balloon Battle, Bob-omb Blast & Shine Thief returning from Mario Cart: Double Dash and Coin Runners from Mario Kart Wii. We also have a new entry to the Battle Mode series, Renegade Roundup, which is a cops and robbers style mode. This alone makes the upgrade to Deluxe totally worth it! The game has also had a few tweaks including the ability to hold a second item.
The portability of the Nintendo Switch is an incredible boost for a fun filled multiplayer game like Mario Kart as well! You can easily take the Switch with anywhere, Set up the screen on it’s kick stand, flip the joy-cons to the side and start racing! We played a lot of multiplayer this way, and the freedom this console provides is incredible.
Nintendo really know how to get the best possible performance out of there hardware. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe looks and sounds incredible. The Nintendo polish really makes this something worth experiencing for yourself. If you missed the Mario Kart 8 train on the Wii U, this is a perfect opportunity to jump on board. If you were already a fan, the added extras will give you hours and hours of fun.
